23rd Anniversary Celebrations – A Journey of Faith and Community
It gives us immense joy to announce that our beloved temple will be celebrating its 23rd Anniversary on 3rd November 2025.
It has been a long and blessed journey since our humble beginning, when the Krishnan Family from Malaysia envisioned establishing a Karpaga Vinayagar Temple in New Zealand. With the support of five (5) Founding Trustees, this vision gave rise to the Auckland Sri Ganesh Temple Trust (ASGTT).
The Krishnan Family seeded the initial funds to set the foundation, which was then strengthened by contributions from 28 Life Members and two New Zealand charities. The Trust was formally registered as a Charitable Trust in New Zealand, with the aim of creating a sacred space where all persons of Hindu belief, culture and practice could connect with their spiritual and cultural roots and establish a place for worship, devotion, friendship, learning, and unity among people of diverse backgrounds and countries.
The Trust acquired a plot of land in Papakura, which was then considered as located on the outskirts of Auckland. Though inner-city properties were financially out of reach at the time, the Trustees made a courageous decision—and today, devotees can truly appreciate the wisdom of this choice. The temple now stands in a peaceful, spacious, and well-secured location, with ample parking and room for continuous growth.
With the support of well-wishers and countless devotees, the temple has flourished. The generosity of our community displayed through donations, volunteer time and professional expertise and heartfelt service, has shaped every “brick and pillar” of our temple.
We began with a modest structure housing Lord Ganesha as the sole deity, alongside a simple toilet block. The temple withstood various challenges but always intended to promote unison amongst all members and devotees. Over the years, through unwavering devotion and support, the temple has expanded into a full-fledged spiritual centre, which is now served by three full-time priests and a very hands-on Board of Trustees supported by many volunteers. As they say, the rest is history!
While we reflect with gratitude on how far we have come, we also look forward with hope and determination. There remains much more to be done to make our temple an extraordinary experience for all devotees—especially the younger and future generations.
The Trustees aspire to make this centre not only a place of worship but also a cultural, spiritual, and learning destination for people of all walks of life—a sanctuary that fosters peace, unity and contribution to the wider New Zealand community.
To mark this auspicious milestone, special prayers and celebrations will be conducted at the temple on Monday, 3rd November 2025.

The Temple Trustees wish to invite all devotees and well-wishers to celebrate the auspicious occasion of our Lord Ganesh’s birthday on 27-08-2025 Wednesday. As usual, we have embarked on celebrating this special day of our Lord in a grand manner. The festivities will start as early as 4.30am and go on till 10.00pm.
The first Pooja will start at 5.00am and the last at 7.30pm.
This year our lord going to be in procession in the special manjam(chariot)
